The Royal Agricultural Benevolent
Institution, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2010, supports members
and former members of the farming community who have fallen on hard times with
financial help where appropriate but also with practical assistance,
everything from helping to claim state aids to providing emergency labour when
a lone hill farmer is unexpectedly taken seriously ill. In North Yorkshire
alone, over £115,000 was paid out in the last year supporting the needy.
